The EYFS

Children are welcome to join us from the age of 2.  They will spend part of their time with us in our main nursery room, which is vibrant with colour and stimulation and provides an exciting learning environment.  At nursery, your child will be given the opportunity to partake in a variety of fun, active, educational games, activities and experiences.  We organise our space in a way that encourages children to participate in various activities such as arts & crafts, music & singing, circle & story time, water play, construction, IT, mark making and imaginary play.  All children are introduced to early numeracy and literacy skills, whilst focusing on learning through play at all times.

We have a wonderful, rustic outdoor area at Cononley Sports Club where the children can access learning opportunities outside. There we can climb trees, look for bugs, build 'campfires', go on nature trails, have picnics, and play outdoor games.  We also take the children to play at Cononley Primary School, which is invaluable in terms of their transition to 'big school'.

In their pre-school year, we offer your child a range of activities that allow them to further develop the skills they will need when they enter primary school.  These include sitting quietly, working independently for a short period of time, eating together, listening to and following instructions, managing their own toileting, and getting changed for PE!  We liaise closely with local schools to ensure the move to school is as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.  The EYFS framework covers the following areas of learning & development:

Communication & Language

Physical Development

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts & Design
